The latest news regarding the 2009 AIB Shooting Star Awards, ICPSA Junior Bursary Awards, AED fundraising, membership benefits, accredited coaches, 2011 international events, shoot date changes, score returns and ICPSA HPP Olympic Trap Teams are now available.

We would like to wish all of our members a very Happy and Prosperous New Year and the hope that 2010 will bring all that 2009 might have failed to deliver.

AIB Shooting Star Awards:

Following the counting of ballots cast by last years Ireland Team members the 2009 AIB Shooting Star Award recipients have been confirmed as DTL-Jim Doherty; Sporting-Roland Morris; National Skeet-Malcolm Graham; Olympic Skeet-Derek Forbes; ABT-Robert Carter; FITASC-Aiden Collins and Olympic Trap-Wayne Byrne.   The 2009 recipients will receive their awards at the ICPSA dinner dance which will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, Co. Westmeath on Saturday 9th October.  This event is open to all ICPSA members and specially discounted accommodation is available at through the hotel on 090 6442600.  We would like to thank the Associations bankers AIB for their support of the awards.

ICPSA Junior Bursary Awards:

This year saw an increase in the number of applications and the quality of the applicants was such that the final decision was always going to be a very difficult one.  But in the end as with any competition there must be winners and the recipients of the Bursary for 2010 have been announced as Sean Pawley-Treacy, Robert Carter and Christopher Moriarty.  The Bursary will take the form of free entries to ICPSA Registered shoots and ammunition which we hope will continue to promote the continued improvement in performance among our Junior members and we would hope that those who were not successful this time around will apply again next year.  We would like to thank Knocknagoshel Shooting Grounds and Victory for their continued support of this initiative.

AED Fundraiser:

We would like to thank Ruan CPC who recently ran a shoot to raise funds towards the purchase by the ICPSA in 2009 of AED's for use by affiliated clubs.  On the day €4,450 was raised which Club Secretary Ger O'Donoghue recently presented to the ICPSA Chairman Edmond O'Hara.  The final AED Training Courses will take place in the coming weeks and the clubs concerned will be contacted directly.

ICPSA Membership Renewal:

We would like to remind clubs and individuals that membership expired on 31st December last.  In order that membership benefits (including insurance cover) are maintained we would therefore encourage all past members to please re-apply for membership at the earliest opportunity.  On the new application form there is a section for "Initial" in which we would like members to please indicate the initial of their second given name so that members with the same names can be differentiated over and above their membership numbers.  A private member's draw whereby on payment of an additional €10 over and above their annual subscription members will have an opportunity to win a life membership is now operational.  A provision for this is made on the 2010 membership application form and members may enter more than once to increase their chance of winning the Life Membership which will be non-transferable with a current value of €2500.

Club Membership:

Affiliated clubs are also reminded at this time of membership renewal that all members of a club in accordance with the 5.4 (c) of the ICPSA Articles of Association must without exception also be members of the ICPSA.  We would ask for clubs to please monitor this as failure to do so could have implications for the clubs in question and to this end we publish a paid members list each Friday on the ICPSA web site.

Accredited Coaches:

For 2010 the ICPSA has through its brokers managed to include professional indemnity for recognised coaches within the Association as part of the general membership insurance package. The ICPSA will be making this cover available to qualified members free of charge and active coaches who wish to be included in this coverage should contact the General Secretary for further details.

2011 ICTSC Sporting Home Countries International Tournament:

Next year the ICPSA will be hosting the Sporting HCIT on behalf of the International Clay Target Shooting Council and the allocation of this event is now being put out to tender in accordance with the motion passed at the 2006 ICPSA AGM.

Applications are therefore now being invited from affiliated clubs who wish to be considered as potential venues for the 2011 Tournament.

Host clubs must however be capable of running the event over 14 layouts and this undertaking in association with an outline of the other club facilities available must be stated in full in the application.

The host club must be willing and capable of being responsible for the provision and delivery of the logistical and administrative organisational requirements of the HCIT in its entirety to the satisfaction of the ICPSA National Executive and an undertaking to this effect must be given in the application.

All proceeds from practice and the entry fees for the HCIT and additional events, if any, scheduled in association with the Tournament will be for the sole benefit of the host club. The potential host club must however indicate in its application what lump sum payment it will make in advance to the ICPSA in return for being awarded the event.

With regard to the HCIT and its associated events the successful host club must be prepared to act at all times in consultation with and under the direction and supervision of the ICPSA as deemed necessary by the National Executive and this must be clearly stated in the application.

The organisation and administration of visitor's permits and the post-Tournament banquet will be the responsibility of the host club.

The deadline for the receipt of completed applications is Friday 19th February next and a decision on the matter will be made at the following meeting of the National Executive.

The National Executive reserves the right to award the hosting of the Tournament as it so determines, the National Executives decision on the matter is final and no subsequent further correspondence will be entered into with regard to the award.

Any queries and completed applications should be sent to the Associations General Secretary.

2011 European DTL Championships:

Applications are therefore now being invited from affiliated clubs who wish to be considered as potential venues for the 2011 Championships.

Shoot date changes:

Due to the recent severe weather a number of shoots have been cancelled.  We would therefore recommend that members ensure that listed events are still going ahead before travelling.  The Eamon Duffy Perpetual Cup has been rescheduled for Sunday 7th February next at Ennis Shooting Grounds and on Sunday 31st January Knocknagoshel Shooting Grounds will be holding 15DTL, 25 DTL and 10 Springing Teal re-entry competitions.

Shoot score returns:

It has been decided that all scores from Registered shoots which are used for Team selection and classification purposes will in future be submitted electronically by e-mail as is already the case with the vast majority of affiliated clubs.  The ICPSA has a shoot programme which will assist clubs in doing this and further details are available from the General Secretary.

ICPSA High Performance Programme:

The Ireland Olympic Trap contingent which will participate at the first ISSF World Cup of 2010 in Acapulco, Mexico has been confirmed as Derek Burnett, Philip Murphy, Shane Corrigan and Thomas O'Grady.
