Italy host the First International Trap Grand Prix for Disabled Shooters

During the recent ISSF Organisers meeting in Munich at which the ICPSA was represented by Kevin Kilty, ISSF Vice President and FITAV President Mr. Luciano Rossi presented an extensive report on their recently hosted First International Trap Grand Prix for Disabled shooters.

The Grand Prix took place at Tiro a Volo Cascata delle Marmore, Acquasparta in Italy from 2nd to 4th September and was a a personal initiative by President Rossi and FITAV who made extensive arrangements for the competitors including transport from the airport and the classification of shooters as per the International Paralympic Committee rules.

The transport for the competition which included the use of a wheelchair accessible coach was sponsored and FITAV also covered the costs of accommodation, meals and the event entry.

Over 40 competitors attended from Australia, Brazil, Finland, Great Britain, New Zealand, Spain and Italy and coincided with the 4th Italian Disabled Shooters competition.

The competition was split into two classes.  These classes were further divided into two sub-classes these being standing - shooting one armed (SH1A) or fully supported (SH1B) and for sitting those who cannot stand or have leg irons to T1 to T9 (SH2A) or cannot stand, double amputee or have leg irons T10 to L5 (SH2B).

FITAV secured grant aid for the shooting range which was extensively modified to accommodate wheelchair access and it was run over125 OlympicTrap target's according to ISSF rules with 75 targets on Saturday and the final 50 on Sunday followed by a flash final for the standing and sitting competitors (top 6 scores over both categories).

The ICPSA is always keen to promote clay target shooting as an all-inclusive sport and we t h e r e f o r e ask our member clubs to p l e a s e consider how they can encourage disabled participation in their region w i t h a l l s u g g e s t i o n s t o t h e G e n e r a l S e c r e t a r y.
