Disapointment for Team Ireland at the opening ISSF World Cup of 2011
Day 2 Report:
Philip Murphy started off day two where he finished on day one with a round of 23. With the scores being returned from the other competitors it looked like a final 25 straight would be needed but a 24 might do. As it happened two missed targets in the last five saw Philip finish with a 22 for a total of 118, three targets off a place in the final.
Derek Burnett finished up with rounds of 22 and 23 for a total of 111 while Michael Ward in his first outing at an ISSF World Cup added a 21 and a 24 to his first day score to finish with 112 in the MQS section.
In the end it was Oguzhan Tuzun from Turkey who took the Gold and with it the recious quota place for London 2012 and all eyes now turn to Australia in two weeks time for the second World Cup of the 2011 season.
Day 1 Report:
At the end of day one in the opening ISSF World Cup of 2011, Irelands Philip Murphy is just two targets off the leader.
Having started off with 50 straight, misses on the 5th and 14th targets on the last round of the day saw Philip drop down the leader board on count back.
He is however well placed as they prepare for day two in Conception with only three scores better than 73.
Irelands other Team members Derek Burnett and Shane Corrigan finished on 66 (22-21-23) and 61 (23-18-20) while our MQS entry Michael Ward scored 67 (25-23-19)
